20TH NCPW PRESS CONFERENCE at Executive Function Hall

(Pagadian) September 05, 2014- A press conference was held at the Pagadiain City Executive Function Hall this morning. This activity was in line with the week-long celebration of National Crime Prevention Week. It was attended by DILG  ARD Pedro G. Cuevas, NAPOLCOM-IX Regional Director Atty Macapado Guro, PRO9 represented by PSSUPT Jose Bayani Gucela, ZSPPO Provincial Director PSSUPT Sofronio P. Ecaldre, JSUPT Mamuerto Barroro, BFP FSUPT Edmundo Naraga, Mayor Romeo Pulmones of Pagadian City, PSUPT Glenn M. Dulawan of Pagadian City Police Station and FSI Reggy Olmendo of Pagdian City Fire Station. 

ATTY Guro with his welcome address.

ATTY Guro gave his welcome message and explained to the audience that we observe the National Crime Prevention Week because preventing crime is very important in order for the Filipino to live in a peaceful and harmonious country. According to him the PNP is really doing their duties and functions as the front-liners in crime prevention. “I really appreciate the efforts of the PNP in preventing crime and maintaining our peace and order. PNP is multitasking agency that are always ready in any forms of criminality and police related activities,” ATTY Guro added. Also, he remind the audience that crime prevention is not only the responsibility of the PNP but the responsibility of every member of the community.

PSSUPT Gucela answering the 1st question.

The 1^st question from the Media was how to discourage people to commit crime and it was addressed to PSSUPT Gucela. “The PNP has various activities conducted when it comes to crime prevention and suppression. Educating the people, giving them information on our existing Laws, Implementing Rules and Regulation, and Ordinances are some of the activities of the PNP to discourage them in committing crime. We have to consider some factors why people commit crime. Poverty is one of the major reason why people involved in criminal activities, PSSUPT Gucela said.

ARD Cuevas of DILG giving updates of NCPW activities.

The 2^nd question is for ARD Cuevas of DILG, on updates of the National Crime Prevention Week. ARD Cuevas said that the following were the events during the week-long celebration of NCPW: Kick-off Ceremony dated September 01, 2014, Symposium on Crime Prevention & Crime Prevention Control (for selected Pagadian City Schools)-September 02, 2014, Seminar on PLEB and LCEs as Napolcom Deputies-September 3, 2014 and Symposium on Crime Prevention & Crime Prevention and Control (selected High Schools in Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay) September 4, 2014. These activities were conducted in the entire country, ARD Cuevas added.

PSUPT Dulawan giving the peace and order situation updates.

Giving the situation updates on Peace and Order of Pagadian City, PSSUPT Dulawan said that the City is generally peaceful. Although occasionally, it is spoiled by incidents that are isolated and which are manageable. He added that the city police is doing its best to address the criminality in the city. The press people recognize and congratulate the PNP City OIC and the City Mayor on the positive impact of the newly installed Motor Cops sponsored by the LGU. The city Mayor gave his assurance to continuously support the City PNP especially in crime prevention activities. Hon. Romeo Pulmones also revealed to the public the upcoming installation of CCTV cameras in some strategic areas in the city that is very useful in crime detection and investigation.

" PNP is serious in implementing the campaign against loose FA's", by the  Provincial Director of ZSPPO.

On campaign against loose Firearms, Provincial Director of ZSPPO, PSSUPT. Ecaldre said the Police Provincial Office is continuously strengthening the campaign against loose FA’s. Further the Provincial Director said, “In fact as to the estimated loose FA’s that was calculated from Higher Headquarters, with the 2% quota per month, the accomplishments of ZSPPO increased from 7 last July to 14 of August. The community must realize that the PNP is serious in implementing the campaign and we are truly doing our job”. 

BFP giving update in their Fire Prevention activities.

The BFP was also asked on their activities when it comes to fire prevention. FSI Reggy Olmendo of Pagdian City Fire Station said that the BFP are also conducting continues education and information on fire prevention and things to do during fire. “In fact we conduct regular lectures in some schools and Barangays of Pagadian. We also conducted building inspection, which is necessary in securing Business Permit.”FSI Olmendo added.

The Press Conference ended with the last message of  all the contributor from different agencies. Reminding everyone that crime prevention is not only the task of the police but it is everybody’s concern and crime prevention is not only for the month of September alone but crime prevention must be observed every day throughout the year.
